My name is David Martin and I love coffee, comics, and comics about coffee.
In March 2004 normal coffee consumption for me was merely a handful of times a year and during the holidays. I was a coffee connoisseur by no means. April 2004, I became dependent. I had started a new job at a local roaster in downtown San Diego called Café Moto. Quickly I began to learn and appreciate the hard work, dedication and pampering involved in a good cup of coffee. So I became passionate as well. My work involved the maintenance and calibration of brewing/grinding equipment. Simply put, I was service technician. However, my job was an integral part of the coffee making process. It was important to me to make sure the coffee tasted the way it was supposed to.
In high school and college some might describe me as an art geek if there is such a geek. I especially loved comics and cartoons (Simpsons). That love for comics carried over to my job. 6 months in to my new job I started drawing comics for Café Moto's newsletter each month. I was more than happy to contribute. I knew the life of a coffee bean from the farm to the mug its served. I had the knowledge and material so I began to DRAW everything coffee.
My comic ( Cup of Breakfast) / character (Harvest Bumpkin) is to some degree a mix of myself, Homer Simpson, an addict of some type and an American patriot all balled in to one. The comic explains it best.
