Pocket coffee
This candy starts out with a carmelized sugar pocket for a sweet espresso liquid. The carmelized sugar is coated with European milk chocolate.
The manufacturer (Fererro) claims that eating three pieces is equivalent to a shot of espresso, and I have to admit that I got a buzz off of
the candy. I brought it in to work to share with co-workers. They loved it and asked for more.
Advice on eating these candies from Patty: You bite off a
teeny corner, drink the yummy liquid espresso then finish off the remainder
in a few bites, slowing luxuriating in the sensation of eating a little
mailbox of chocolate with a crystallized sugar lining. I say this since I
have been the victim of the espresso adorning my clothing and don't wish the
same on anyone else.
Patty writes: You can buy Pocket Coffee from
CapriFlavors: http://www.capriflavors.com/ and I did find another site in
Italy. http://www.prontoit.com/- You can search either in English or Italian,
Look under food, then look under chocolate amenities. It is priced in EURO but seems quite a bit cheaper. I have never ordered from them.
Art wrote in with this info: Just wanted to fill you in on Pocket Coffee. As somebody with a LOT of experience with this particular candy...and a yearning for some more right now, thought I'd clarify something. After the candy is 'aged' for a couple weeks on the shelf, it becomes what you've reviewed...with
the three layers - chocolate, crytalized sugar, liquid espresso. However, when it is fresh, there is a delicate balance of two layers...a chocolate shell with smooth, warm (more psychological than actual temperature) center of liquid espresso. Both are unique and wonderful. But if it's too far gone...the liquid is completely crystallized.
More from Patty: Option #2, but now my favorite. I have discovered
another way of enjoying these delicious chocolate
covered espresso delights. I plop the large piece into
my mouth and just let is slowly melt... Slowly and
then at one point the chocolate and crystallized sugar
casing just collapses and you get this gush of
delicious espresso. While my original post is still
possibly an "industry standard", this new favorite
method of munching these marvels. They are available
on ebay now, too. Buon Appetito!
Review: Fantastic!
