About The Site

This is not only visually appealing, it is very informative. The site covers topics that many sites don't cover well or simply gloss over such as growing regions, roast styles, and even legends. There is also a forum where you can post comments about how you like to drink your coffee and share with others your methodology.

Legends

From the infamous legend of Kaldi, to Baba Budan, learn the about the journey of the bean from discovery to worldwide cultivation. National Geographic tells the saga in a very colorful and engaging manner.

Growing Regions

This site contributes a wonderful map called the "bean belt". The map highlights the coffee growing regions of the world, tells how much coffee the county produces per year, and lists notable beans from the country.

Roast Styles

I thought one of the more valuable portions of the site was the page that not only describes the differences of roast styles, but it shows you what those roasts look like. Often times, it is difficult to distinguish between French and Vienna roasts and they do a fine job of classifying the more darkly roasted bean.

Archived Article

National Geographic has taken the time to reproduce a full featured article about coffee which was originally published in 1981. This article covers such topics as coffee baths, the spread of coffee, to the decaffeination process.

Before you visit this site, you may need to adjust your security settings on your browser to enable Active-X controls. Mine were initially set too stringently and I wasn't able to get through to the rest of the content. This site is very colorful, informative and enjoyable. You will not regret a visit to to this site at all.
